The facility is one of the strategic projects in the development of terminal infrastructure in connection with the increase in traffic volumes and opens up new prospects for the development of freight traffic from east to west.
The project started in 2018 and was implemented in accordance with the Republican program for the development of the logistics system and transit potential until 2020.
As part of the project, the railway track was rebuilt, container transshipment and storage areas were expanded, modern crane equipment and high-performance lifting machines (reach stackers) were purchased and installed.
The site can carry out technical work, as well as sorting containers in accordance with the destination and customer requirements.
The total area of the container site is almost 50 thousand square meters. m, including a technical area (1.7 thousand sq. m), where containers are loaded and unloaded using modern reach stackers.
These measures will make it possible to increase the average daily container transshipment capacity by 1.5 times and container storage capacity by 2 times, which will increase the attractiveness and competitiveness of the East-West-East transport corridor through Brest.
China-Europe-China transit cargo through Belarus is transported through three border crossings – Brest/Terespol, Bulgi/Kuznitsa Belostotskaya and Smyslov/Semyanuchka.
The total capacity of all border crossings between Belarus and Poland is 50 pairs of freight trains per day. The Belarusian Railway has free capacity at all border crossings between Belarus and Poland.
The element of speed, as well as safety and reliability of railway transportation through the territory of the Republic of Belarus is an important factor in the competitiveness of Belarusian Railways services in the container transportation sector, allowing the development of promising routes, attracting new customers and increasing traffic volumes.
In the short term, container traffic in the east-west direction is expected to increase to 1 million containers annually by 2025.
